Feature film, directed by an RCC member, financed by RCC members, in London cinemas in November

Written In Dust (82 mins, Cert.15) is a contemporary silent film set in Beijing and it is showing in London with live music accompaniment. The music is a collaboration between a Chinese traditional musician (playing 4 instruments) and a British musician on electric guitar and keyboards.

Written and Directed by Gareth Rees (RCC member since 2005), it was financed by a group of RCC members including Liza S., Claire T., Mark R., Dicky, Ralph, Tom B., Elaine M. These Executive Producers came together and backed the film when on a Dart Trip celebrating Ian T.’s birthday – a fine example of high spirits, conviviality and cosy pubs leading to crazy ideas and loose wallets!

The film was described as ‘a little masterpiece’ by City Weekend magazine Beijing (equivalent to Time Out), and audience feedback comments include ‘Excellent fusion of film and live music, very impressive’; ‘breathtakingly beautifully shot, hugely impressive and moving storytelling’; ‘so much achieved with so little!’; ‘heart-breaking’… Check the YouTube trailers out to see what prompted this feedback!

The shows are on the 12th and 14th, 7.30pm at The Cinema Museum, Kennington, SE11 4TH (amazing venue in the old Lambeth Workhouse where Chaplin spent time), and on the 22nd, at 3pm at the Rio Cinema, Dalston E8 2PB.

For the foreseeable future, these are the only shows in London, so if the film and music event is of interest, don’t miss out! If you can’t make a show, there are paddling clashes I know, any help you can give in spreading the word would be hugely appreciated; a new film without a marketing team and budget needs as much support as possible.

Thank you, Gareth.
