Booking opens 9.00pm Sunday 4th June

Trip now full, with a waiting list.  But we have another Mile End Mill trip on 8-10th September!

This trip is a coached weekend and suitable for beginners who may have just joined the club at a New Members Evening or completed the Introduction to White Water Kayaking course (IWWK).  Having some experience helps but this trip is aimed at people who would like to improve their abilities and/or move onto moving water.  The only pre-requisite is that you must have done your spray deck test – if you do not know what this is, please go to a club pool session held every other Tuesday to do one – see Club Calendar for dates.

For those of you who have completed the IWWK course, there will be the opportunity to be assessed for British Canoeing One Star personal ability.  If you are interested, please get in touch as it will be essential for you to read the One Star Syllabus.  There are no formal training sessions booked at the canal prior to the trip but you will have covered all assessment areas as part of the IWWK course.

If you have not been on a club trip before, you must be available to pick, fit, pay and help load your kit and boat on the Thursday before.  It is your responsibility to ensure all your kit is returned to the club rinsed, dried and in a good state of repair  (faults/broken equipment & kit needs to be reported) by Thursday after the trip.  Please also refer to Ian White’s article ‘A Little Trip Etiquette‘.  All communication surrounding the trip will be via email, so you must make sure that you read and respond.

We will be paddling at Mile End Mill in Llangollen on the river Dee.  However, there may be the opportunity to run the section from Chain Bridge Hotel to Mile End Mill.  This is a lovely grade 2 stretch with an optional grade 3 rapid (Serpents Tail).  The plan for the day will very much depend on the overall groups ability, weather and water levels though as it is a very small trip (8 students and 4 coaches) we have some flexibility.

We will be staying at a local youth hostel in Llangollen.  The accommodation provides bedding but please bring your own towels.  The cost of the trip will be £58 – this will include two nights accommodation, breakfast, lunch and the launch cost.  A table has been booked at a local pub but you will be expected to pay for your meal on the night.  A further additional cost is your share of petrol to your driver.

To sign up, please email Steffi at [email protected] and answer the following questions:

1. Do you drive/how many boats and passengers can you take?
2. Where will you be leaving from on the Friday and liked to be dropped off on the Sunday?
3. Previous paddling experience?
4. Would you be happy to coach/support?
5. Any dietary requirements?

Once you’ve been confirmed on the trip we will send an invoice to you individually – please pay on receipt of this – thank you!
